Forthcoming Tenth Graduate Workshop in Bremen

Forthcoming Tenth Graduate Workshop in Bremen

We would like to draw your attention to the forthcoming tenth anniversary workshop of the Russian(?) Art & Culture Group, which will be held at Constructor University in Bremen on September 27 and 28, 2024.

The ongoing Russian war against Ukraine has caused a deep crisis of scholarship. Taking this as a point of departure, the goal of the tenth workshop of the Russian(?) Art & Culture Group is to find appropriate terms, approaches, and strategies that offer new insights into Imperial Russian and Soviet art and culture in order to contribute to the ongoing debates regarding the future of scholarship in this field of research.

We are already looking forward to interesting presentations, the keynote talk by Konstantin Akinsha on The History of Art in the Shadow of War: On the Necessity of Revising the Narrative of Russian/Soviet Modernism and the roundtable discussion focussing on the question What Is “Russian” Art and Culture? with Louise Hardiman, Maria Silina, and Konstantin Akinsha. See program and booklet for more details.

Should you be insterested in participating, please register by September 22, 2024, at workshop@russian-art.net.

Thank You for a Wonderful Workshop!

Thank You for a Wonderful Workshop!

Our eighth graduate workshop on The Problem of Religious Art in Modernity. Uses and Abuses of the Icon in Russia and first online event was a great success!

We heard of intriguing research and engaged in vivid discussions thanks to our wonderful speakers, our participants, and our great colleagues at the “Eurasia in Global Dialogue” Program at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM).

Since we were not able to personally meet in Vienna, please enjoy some impressions of the city in our gallery.

The presentations will soon be available on YouTube. Furthermore, following tradition and for promoting reasons, there will be a booklet.

We will keep you updated!

Graduate Workshop Goes Online

The travelling restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic were affecting the workshop so immensely that we finally decide to move the forthcoming graduate workshop on The Problem of Religious Art in Modernity. Uses and Abuses of the Icon in Russia to the online realms!

So, our graduate workshop will be an online Zoom conference which we will host together with our colleagues of the “Eurasia in Global Dialogue” Program at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM).

Since none of us would like to spend the whole day in front of the screen, we streched the program a little bit.

The workshop is now starting a day earlier. Our speaker will present their papers from October 14 to 16, 2020, from around 2 to 5 pm, Bremen and Vienna time (UTC+2 hours).

The participation is free for everyone, you just need to register in due time on the website of the IWM to receive the necessary information to access our Zoom meeting room.
