Sebastian Borkhardt studied History of Art and East Slavonic Philology in Tübingen and Saint Petersburg. His interests include Russian modernism, reception history, and the representation of “nature” in art. Together with Isabel Wünsche and Tanja Malycheva, he edited the 2017 issue of Experiment: A Journal of Russian Culture (“In Memoriam: Dmitry Vladimirovich Sarabyanov”), based on a selection of papers from the Third Graduate Workshop of the Russian Art and Culture Group. His forthcoming dissertation examines the role of the Russian roots of Vasily Kandinsky in the reception of the artist’s work in Germany. At present, he is a scientific trainee at the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe, where he has assisted with several exhibitions.
